      Venice is located in northeastern Italy and is the capital of the Veneto region. The city is built on a lagoon, which is separated from the Adriatic Sea by a barrier island called the Lido.

      The historic center of Venice is divided into six districts, known as sestieri.

      Piazza San Marco is the principal public square in Venice and is often considered one of the most beautiful squares in the world. It is surrounded by important landmarks, including St. Mark's Basilica, the Doge's Palace, and the Campanile (bell tower).
