Topkapi Palace, Istanbul
TURKEY
Topkapı Palace (Topkapı Sarayı) is one of Istanbul’s most iconic landmarks and a stunning representation of the grandeur of the Ottoman Empire. Located on a promontory overlooking the Bosphorus Strait, the Golden Horn, and the Sea of Marmara, it served as the administrative, educational, and cultural center of the empire for centuries.
Built in the mid-15th century (1460–1478) by Sultan Mehmed II, the conqueror of Constantinople, shortly after the Ottoman Empire captured the city in 1453. It became the residence of Ottoman sultans and their courts for approximately 400 years.
