      Lake Windermere

      IDYLLIC WINDERMERE

      LAKE DISTRICT, CUMBRIA, ENGLAND

Lake Windermere is the largest natural lake in England and one of the most iconic and popular destinations within the Lake District National Park.

It is famous for its historic steamers and pleasure cruises. The Windermere Lake Cruises company operates regular boat trips that allow visitors to experience the beauty of the lake from the water. These cruises offer stunning panoramic views and often stop at various points of interest along the shoreline.

The lake is surrounded by charming towns and villages that add to its allure. Bowness-on-Windermere and Ambleside, located on the eastern shores of the lake, are popular tourist destinations. They offer a variety of attractions, including shops, restaurants, cafes, and art galleries, making them vibrant hubs for visitors to explore.

Like much of the Lake District, Lake Windermere has inspired many famous writers and poets. The renowned poet William Wordsworth lived in the area and wrote several poems about the lake and its surroundings.

Wray Castle is a Victorian neo-Gothic mansion located on the western shore of Lake Windermere in Cumbria, England. Wray Castle was built in the mid-19th century for James and Margaret Dawson, a wealthy Liverpool surgeon and his wife. It was designed by the architect, George Webster, in a Gothic Revival style. Unlike traditional castles, Wray Castle was intended to be a holiday home rather than a defensive fortress.
