Istanbul
TURKEY
Istanbul is a vibrant, historically rich city that serves as a cultural and economic hub in Turkey. It is unique in straddling two continents, Europe and Asia, divided by the Bosphorus Strait.
Originally founded as Byzantium in 660 BCE, it was later renamed Constantinople in 330 CE when Emperor Constantine the Great declared it the capital of the Roman Empire.
It served as the capital of the Byzantine Empire and later the Ottoman Empire, which profoundly shaped its architecture, culture, and identity.
