A LUXURY DESTINATION WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER’S TOUR GUIDE TO TUSCANY – SIENA
Siena is one of the most beautiful and famous cities in Tuscany in Italy. It is the capital of the province of Siena. Siena is known for its medieval cityscape its characteristic narrow streets flanked by brick buildings and its historic center was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. My luxury destination wedding photographer’s tour guide to Tuscany with focus on Siena will highlight a few gorgeous buildings worth seeing.
1. Piazza del Campo
Siena’s city centre is Piazza del Campo and up to date it is the center of Sienese life. It’s one of the biggest medieval squares remaining in the world. Twice a year the famous Palio takes place here, a horse race event. You will find one of the most beautiful fountains, Fonte Gaia, at the top the square.
2. Torre del Mangia
Torre del Mangia is the 88 meters high tower, an unmissable striking feature of Siena seen from afar. It’s worth the 400 steps climb with breathtaking views on tp overlooking Piazza del Campo, the Cathedral a little further away and beyond, the distant hills.
3. The Cathedral
Overlooked from above the Cathedral strikes out with its mostly white and black facade from the mainly clay colored city. The cathedral’s interior will leave you in awe – its flooring, full of esoteric symbols and religious stories; the Piccolomini Library with frescoes by Pinturicchio; the Piccolomini Chapel, where Michelangelo worked from 1501 to 1504, carving the statues of the four lower niches.
A LUXURY DESTINATION WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER’S TOUR GUIDE TO TUSCANY – PISA
Who hasn’t heard of the famous leaning tower of Pisa? If you are staying in Florence take the train for a day excursion and you will be in Pisa in just an hour. When you get off the train just follow the crowd and as you walk on the street you will see a tower popping up the horizon. You will be stunned by the views of the Leaning Tower. The Leaning Tower is located at the Piazza Dei Miracoli, also known as the Square of Miracles, and forms the heart of Pisa. Besides the Leaning Tower you will find the Cathedral, the Baptistery, the Belle and the Monumental Churchyard, which all complete the Square of Miracles. All buildings are spread along a wide green lawn, which will invite you to take a seat and enjoy the miraculous views of this square. Let your thoughts wonder when looking at the immaculately worked marble buildings, which stand in harmony with nature. And wonder what life might have looked like in the old days. No wonder the Piazza Dei Miracoli was declared an UNESCO World Heritage site in 1987. Don’t forget to wander along the beautiful Arno River and treat yourself to an amazing Italian ice cream in one of the adjacent cafes before you head back to Florence.
