questions for KELSI

Why did you start your business?

Aspen engagement

I began ZG Events in the summer of 2017.

I was working as the Event Director/Catering Manager at a local venue in Aspen. We were getting a ton of wedding clients, but they didn't have any wedding coordinators or planners to help with all the other logistics of their wedding. My General Manager at the time encouraged me to start my own wedding planning business since I was taking on that role for these clients anyways!

What do you enjoy the most about your work, and what's your motto?

Aspen town

I, of course, love getting to know my clients and their families throughout the planning process, but I think I most enjoy the collaboration with all the event partners, which brings the entire wedding or event together.

From the florist and the photographer, paper artist, linens, lighting and draping, caterers, etc., to the clients themselves, it’s such a team effort, and seeing it all come together is so special to see and gives me such a great feeling of accomplishment!

My motto is "Imperfection is beauty." It’s part of the quote from Marilyn Monroe, but I really feel that, in all aspects of life, nothing is perfect, and that’s what makes it beautiful and unique.

What advice can you give to couples?

Hire a planner! Even if it’s a month-of coordinator, you will be so happy to not have to be stressed and worrying about the setup, or that the flowers are late, etc. This is your day, and the last thing you should be doing is worrying about a missing place setting at a table. Leave it to someone else to handle, and not a family member or friend, because they want to enjoy your day too!

Fun fact: I started out in the wedding industry by working as a product developer for a bridal dress designer in Los Angeles. I know the ins and outs of wedding dress construction and consider myself a master when it comes to bustles and any other wardrobe malfunctions!
